BUILT ON THE SAME GROUND AS THE FURNACES

When Harriman was founded in 1890, it wasn’t just a clean-living experiment — it was built on iron. The same East Tennessee Land Company that laid out the town’s temperance charter also sank furnaces into these hills, pulling coal and ore out of the ground and running it hot enough to forge the rails that connected the whole region.

The furnaces are long gone. What’s left in the dirt around here isn’t. Iron Slag is named for what got left behind — the black, gritty residue that used to coat every hand that worked those hills, and the same stuff this bar is built to strip off yours.
